What do you get when gourmet meets a taco?
I got to find out this past weekend when I was graciously invited to the soft opening of Tacos Tu Madre in Westwood by Damon Eats.
The bright colors and beautiful artwork done by an amazing artist here in LA, The Art of Chase really drew me into the spot. I don’t know about you but when I visit a new restaurant that is aesthetically pleasing; it makes me that more excited to try the food. In my mind if a restaurant is willing to invest all this work into creating a beautiful spot for someone to enjoy their food, than the food has to be good right?
Well… it was! Actually it was better than just good; they were DELICIOUS! I sampled 3 tacos: The Crispy Chicken Taco, The Fried Chicken Taco, and the Ahi Tuna Taco. Tacos, on tacos, on tacos makes me a very happy girl especially when they are so tasty. 🙂 Let’s face it, depsite being in LA it can be hard to find a taco joint that actually makes good tacos. You can get your generic tacos, but at Tacos Tu Madre that’s what you won’t find because while they do offer the more traditional tacos (grilled chicken, carne asada, etc) they also have high end/gourmet tacos like the Vegan Bahn mi, the Korean BBQ, and the Ahi Tuna tacos. My favorite taco of the day hands down, was the Ahi Tuna Tacos. The tuna was so fresh and it was perfectly seasoned and accompanied by green onions and avocado. I also loved how it was served on the crispy shell (reminded me of a tostada). These guys know flavors, and are able to pair the ingredients so well with each other it’s hard to see myself just eating one. And if that wasn’t enough, we finished off the tacos with of course dessert: The Red Velvet Churros filled with a cream cheese icing. Seriously delicious and so unique! Perfect sweet finish to an already yummy meal.
I will definitely be visiting Tacos Tu Madre again! It’s the perfect late night (or even mid-day) taco joint that is young, hip, and vibrant and sure to satisfy any future taco cravings that I get.

November 3, 2015OMG!!! Those red velvet churros look amazing!!! All of the food does! I live in San Diego, and we have tons of authentic taco shops (plus my hubs is Mexican so we visit ME often), but they don’t have anything like those churros!!! Seriously, I’m practically drooling on my computer right now! May need to make a trip to LA!!
