I love a good brunch any day of the week, but there is just something about waking up on a lazy Sunday morning/early afternoon and deciding to get up and look for a new brunch spot.
A few weekends ago; I had the privilege of staying at the Grafton Hotel in West Hollywood, check out my review on this fabulous West Hollywood Hotel here. I’ve only lived in Los Angeles for about 5 months now so naturally I am still exploring all that this city has to offer. So far I will say that West Hollywood or WeHo (as the cool kids call it) is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s such a pretty side of town and there are soooo many food places which led me to stumble upon Salt’s Cure; a restaurant that I can honestly say I will be visiting again.
I’ll be honest, what initially drew me to the restaurant besides it’s cute/quaint location and it’s rustic signage was actually the name. As someone who is not naturally keen on sweets; I am a fiend for salt so deep down I knew I had to give this place a try. Also (and I may be a little lame for admitting this… lol) when my boyfriend and I looked into the window of the restaurant we happened to see the Lucas Brothers enjoying what looked like a wonderful breakfast spread. And let’s face it, the Lucas Brothers (comedians by trade) are funny and funny people know good food.
Salt’s cure has a laid-back feel coupled with an open kitchen which not only makes the restaurant feel comfortable, but also very engaging. I don’t know about you, but I love to be able to dine and watch the chefs prepare my food; it’s magical.
The weekend brunch menu is simple and straightforward, but has a lot to offer. Being the food lover that I am, I decided to sample a few items. I ended up getting the sausage biscuits and gravy, breakfast potatoes, and two eggs sunny side up; while my boyfriend decided to get the 2x2x2x2 (two eggs, two slices of bacon, two biscuits, and two oatmeal pancakes).
What we ordered was nothing short of amazing. It was such a simple approach to the dishes that we normally eat at brunch, but the difference was that everything tasted so fresh and organic. And that’s no surprise there, since all their ingredients are locally sourced from Farmer’s Markets in the Los Angeles Area.
The biscuits and gravy was delicious! As someone who grew up in the South (Georgia to be specific) I was not disappointed with what I got here. The sausage really gave the gravy a great flavor, and the biscuits were so light and fluffy; a perfect accompaniment to the gravy. The potatoes were seasoned well; crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. And we of course cannot forget the eggs. Any restaurant that has mastered the art of frying the sunny side up egg so that when I break into it and the yolk just oozes out is A1 in my book.
If you ever find yourself in the West Hollywood area on the weekend and have a hankering for brunch you should definitely pay Salt’s Cure a visit. I will be going back, and since the brunch was so good I can’t wait to see what their dinner has to offer.
