Strawberry Basil Sangria…. sounds heavenly right? Strawberries and basil have the perfect food marriage!
What does that mean? Well honestly, they just go so well together. If you don’t believe me than try your hand at making my Strawberry Basil Sangria.
This sangria is for my grown people. You know, the ones that can really handle their alcohol. It’s quite boozy as it’s got red wine and rum in it, but worry not it’s got a sweet taste so you won’t even notice the alcohol. I make it “mojito” style; meaning I muddle the strawberries and basil with some sugar at the bottom of a pitcher before adding the rum and wine. As with most sangrias this just gets better with time. I usually let it sit in the fridge for 4 hours before I serve it because as it sits the flavors continue to develop and get bolder.
This is the perfect drink to serve with your grilled meats and vegetables. Pretty much everyone grills during the summer; so its important to have a cocktail that pairs well with the food. Strawberries are in abundance during the summer, and I definitely recommend using them whenever you are making a cocktail. Also, it’s really important to use a really good quality red wine. Nothing sour or it just wont taste good. In this recipe I used a bottle of Chateau Julian Merlot. If you’re in the Los Angeles area Grocery Outlets is having a really nice wine sale that started today. All of their wines are an extra 20% off. That’s on top of there already low prices! July 21, 2016I love that this only takes 10 minutes to throw together! Do you think it’s something I could make the night before a brunch or would the fruit get too mushy from sitting so long?

August 30, 2016Thanks Renee! I think overnight is fine, but I wouldn’t go more than 12 hours with it.
