New restaurant Recess Eatery will be launching their weekend brunch menu starting tomorrow, and I got to taste a few of the dishes and drinks that they will be serving.
Driving through Highland Park on the way to the restaurant; I couldn’t help but think that this was exactly what the area needed. The restaurant was inspired by an old-school cafeteria and a non-traditional library and is spacious with green and brown earthy tones. It is honestly beautiful, calm, and relaxing and fits in perfectly in the Highland Park area. Owner and chef Sevan Abdessian has given the restaurant a vibe that caters to young families and is kid-friendly making it a spot that the neighborhood can truly enjoy. I know you’re just dying to see some of the brunch items that will be featured this weekend…so here you go!
Me and My Mimosa
Sparkling wine, fresh orange juice, and orange blossom water. Completely crisp and refreshing and is the perfect accompaniment for any spring/summer brunch!
Mary’s PigtailsVodka and Recess tomato mix. Your traditional Bloody Mary but with more flavor and spices. And can we just talk about this beautiful garnish?! Bacon wrapped jalapeno stuffed olives and okra, enough said!
Study of Eggs Benedict- Smoked SalmonButtered English muffins, smoked salmon, poached eggs, and a lemon thyme hollandaise. Not only was this dish absolutely beautiful it was delicious too! You have the option of removing the salmon and getting spinach and mushroom or Canadian bacon. I suggest the smoked salmon though!
Lebani ScrambleSoujouk, eggs, tomato, onion, feta, and pita. I knew that Chef Sevan would have to have at least one dish stay true to the Recess Eatery Mediterranean flavors and this one did not disappoint! The soujouk was crispy and spicy and was amazing with the soft scrambled eggs. The potatoes on the side were also delicious!
Brand BoulevardCountry fried chicken, avocado, marinated peppers, harissa aioli, tomato, pickle, and ciabbata bread. The chicken was both crunchy and juicy. The harrisa aioli gave the sandwich so much flavor , and its the perfect thing to order if you just aren’t feeling eggs at the moment.
The restaurant has expanded its hours, opening now Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 AM. This is a spot that I will definitely be visiting again in the near future!
