The dilemma. I’m hungry but not hungry enough to eat a full out meal, and I don’t have time, nor do I want to wait for my food to be prepared. I think I run into this scenario at least once or twice a week; so I’m always keeping an eye out for places where I can get a quick bite to eat; whether I’m on the run or just want to sit down and regroup for a few moments.
Yesterday I had a meeting with a great foodie here in LA Jeannie Shin (check out all her yummy eats on her instagram: jeannieshinnn), and she suggested that we meet at (fōnuts). Fōnuts is an eatery that doesn’t offer your typical doughnut, in fact they make it a point to tell you not to call it a doughnut. A fōnut is a “doughnut” that is baked and steamed, never fried. These gluten free donuts, or fōnuts I should say are a guilt-free treat.
I’ll be honest, it doesn’t taste like your typical doughnut. In fact if no one ever told me it was a doughnut, I wouldn’t even be able to tell it was one (minus the shape, dead giveaway). They had more of a cake like consistency. That’s not to say that they weren’t good. They were delicious! My two favorites were the cinnamon sugar, which tasted like their might be some sort of apple spice, and the strawberry fōnut.
This is such a cute place to stop and grab a quick bite. There’s a friendly atmosphere, and for the most part it’s pretty quiet. They also offer coffee, tea, and milk beverages to accompany the sweet treats. If you’re ever in The Grove area; you should definitely check it out!
