Game day is right around the corner, and these Honey Buffalo Hot Wings are the perfect thing to serve or bring to a Superbowl Party!
I can be pretty indecisive when it comes to picking the flavor I want whenever I’am about to order or make wings. Some days I want hot, some days I want sweet, and some days I just want both. This indecisiveness led me to come up with a chicken wing recipe that was both hot and sweet… the best of both worlds. The recipe calls for a dry rub of chili powder, smoked red pepper, garlic powder, etc. on the wings to give it that extra depth and layer of flavor before dipping into the amazingly hot and sweet glaze (made with Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Wing’s Sauce and honey. It’s hot, sticky, and sweet and sure to make your heat and sweet lovers equally satisfied. Check out the recipe below, and let me know who your pick is for Superbowl 2016. I’m going with Cam Newton and the Panthers! xX -Evi
Honey Buffalo Hot Wings
These hot, sticky, and sweet Honey Buffalo Hot wings are the best of both worlds giving you the option to have both hot and sweet wings all in one bite!
Ingredients
- 3 pounds (approx 24) chicken wings, washed and patted dry
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons smoked ground red pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 4 tablespoons Frank's RedHot Buffalo Wings Sauce
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil.
- In a small bowl, mix together spice rub ingredients (baking powder, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper, cumin, and thyme). Once mixed, add half of the spice rub to a large Ziploc bag. Add half of the wings, seal the bag, and shake until evenly coated. Line the wings on the baking sheet making sure to leave enough space between each wing so that they are not touching. Add the remaining spice rub and wings to the Ziploc bag and repeat.
- Bake on the middle rack for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, move the wings to the broiler and broil for 5-10 minutes or until the wings have reached your desired level of crispiness. Make sure to broil both sides of the chicken.
- While the wings are cooling, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat in a small pot.
- Mix the buffalo wings sauce and 2 teaspoons of cornstarch.
- Add the honey and the buffalo sauce and cornstarch mixture to the melted butter. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the sauce has slightly thickened.
- Once the chicken is done cooking and cooling, add it to a large bowl and pour over the sauce. Toss the wings with the sauce until coated and serve immediately with your desired dipping sauce.
