I haven’t had the chance to do much exploring around downtown LA, but every time I find myself there I instantly fall in love with it.
It’s true downtown is still developing and no where yet finished, but I like to think of it as a diamond in the rough. In this “rough” area you’ll find a bunch of “diamonds” and FOH DTLA just happens to be one of them.
I was invited by Christine of LosAngelesFoodieGirl to attend a tasting at FOH (and yes, if you were wondering it does stand for the well known restaurant term “front of the house”) a few weeks ago, and my experience was nothing short of amazing!Only open for less than a year; the restaurant has already built quite a nice reputation of itself for the modern Mexican cuisine created by Chef Rodrigo Cabeza de Vaca and for the craft cocktails their bar serves up daily. The decor of the restaurant had a warm, inviting rustic vibe with beautiful wood and a lot of open space. It was dimly lit which created the perfect atmosphere for a dinner party, a romantic date, and even a night out with friends. At the tasting we got to sample the entire menu! I won’t bother to go over every single dish we had; instead what I’ll do is share with you some of my favorites of the night.Corn Lollilops- roasted corn, goat-cheese cream, and lime. The goat cheese cream was tangy and perfect alongside the sweetness of the corn. NYE Lobster Bisque-lobster, roasted corn, and cream. Though this dish is only available on their NYE menu it truly was delicious. The lobster was fresh, and again I liked how the corn added an underlying sweetness to the entire dish. Enconstrado- Bacalao, tortilla crust, cactus salad, and pesto. The bacalao was moist on the inside, but crunchy on the outside because of the tortilla crust. Genius if you ask me! Entraña- Argentinian steak, chorizo, and potato salad. An AMAZING dish! The steak was tender and moist while the chorizo was full of flavor. This was definitely my favorite of the night. Buñuelos- crispy dough, ricotta, cinnamon, sugar, and lechera. Perfectly sweet and crispy, and the ricotta on the inside was a great contrast to the crispy dough.
Everything we had to eat was extremely delicious. The wait staff was so kind, and it really made for a near perfect dining experience. I will definitely be paying FOH a visit again in the near future.
