After a long travel day (or honestly any kind of day), few things hit the spot like sushi—and during my recent stay at the Sonesta LAX, I found exactly what I was craving just downstairs at Yokoso Sushi Bar.

Right downstairs next to the Sonesta LAX hotel lobby, Yokoso gives off cozy, low-key vibes that are perfect for a chill night. The lights are soft, and the sushi bar feels like a calm little escape from all the activity outside. A really warm and inviting feel.

Here’s what I ordered:

Sake & Edamame to Start

I kicked things off with a warm sake and a side of edamame— one of my favorite combos because it sets the tone for a good meal. The sake was smooth, not too sweet, and a good temperature. The edamame was steamed just right, but I do wish it had more flavor.

Albacore Picante

This was my favorite bite of the night. Slices of tender albacore dressed in a spicy ponzu-style sauce with just the right kick of heat and a lot of flavor. It had that melt-in-your-mouth quality I love, with the perfect amount of heat to cut through. I’d come back just for this.

🍣 The Rolls: Sonesta Roll & Red Dragon Roll

  • Sonesta Roll – I had to try the house roll, and I’m glad I did. It was a nice crunchy bite. Think spicy tuna, avocado, and a savory drizzle on top that ties it all together. I liked that it was wrapped in cucumber because the crunch was needed.
  • Red Dragon Roll – This one brought the drama (in the best way). It’s topped with spicy tuna and eel sauce, with a little crunch for texture. If you like bold flavors with a little sweet-and-spicy action, this one’s for you.

I enjoyed dining at Yokoso. I feel like they aren’t trying to reinvent the sushi game—it’s just doing it well. The fish was fresh, the presentation clean, and the vibe super chill.

Whether you’re staying at the Sonesta LAX or just passing through the area, this little sushi bar is worth a visit. Next time I’ll be back for more albacore picante… and maybe another glass of sake.
