Rarely do I find a restaurant that serves great food for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Most restaurants do at least one course really well, but nestled away in Studio City is a hidden gem that is cranking out good food no matter what time of the day it is, and no matter what course you are in the mood for.
Danielle of Follow My Gut and Armen of Eat Bearded hosted yet again another awesome foodie dinner where a bunch of us local LA foodies got to have a private tasting of Comoncy- Studio City most popular dishes. I always look forward to these events because it gives me the chance to spend quality time tasting and photographing menu items without the pressure of interrupting everyone’s meal because I’m taking a million photos, LOL.

Comoncy’s dining atmosphere is casual and artsy with bright pops of orange in the decor and copper tables. I immediately thought that this would be the perfect place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they served lattes and sandwiches. I’m a sucker for latte art and great sandwiches, and their ficelle sandwiches were really delicous. Sandwiches should definitely be served on a french baguette from now. 😛We started the night of with the Frisee & Lardon Salad. This was the perfect salad to start with because it was light and flavorful. The frisee was crunchy along with the bacon, and of course if you put a poached egg on top of anything it automatically makes it amazing (at least that’s what I happen to think). Next we moved on to the Thai Crunchy Salad. This salad packed A LOT of flavor! The sweet chili vinaigrette really brightened up the mixed organic greens, Napa cabbage, grilled chicken, carrots, peppadew peppers, toasted peanuts, jícama, crispy ginger, and basil. I would’ve been satisfied with having just this as a meal. Then corporate chef Joseph Gillard brought out this beauty, the Mac N Cheese with orecchiette pasta, aged cheddar, Parmesan reggiano, pepper jack, and garlic bread crumbs. There’s nothing more comforting than a big bowl of mac n cheese and this was right up my alley. Creamy, velvety cheese with al dente pasta… and the garlic bread crumbs not only added a nice crunch, but also gave it an extra layer of flavor. We also got to taste a “secret dish” that hasn’t made it on to their menu yet, Steak Frites with a prime sirloin culotte, hand-cut Kennebec fries, and black garlic butter. I’m a meat and potatoes girl any day of the week and the fact that they are adding this to their menu is really impressive. Hands down this was my favorite dish of the night. The meat was extremely tender and juicy.Last, but certainly not least the tasting was completed with the beautiful Comoncy French Toast. I have to say that this is probably one of their most popular dishes. I’ve seen it all over Instagram so I was pretty excited to try it when it came out. It was the perfect bite of sweet and savory. Simple and classic served on a french baguette with Greek yogurt, berries, and organic maple syrup.
All of the dishes at Comoncy were really good. Although the look and feel may be casual, they are definitely serving up some gourmet food at a great affordable price.

December 17, 2015Just last week I was getting my hair cut in Studio City (True Salon) and I saw this restaurant. I am going to have to add this to our places to try…. (we live just down the road in Woodland Hills so its an area we head to frequently!) Especially that mac and cheese and Thai salad. I loved your comment about eating with foodies who aren’t annoyed with picture taking all through the meal. I can COMPLETELY relate!
