BCN- Barcelona Street Food In WeHo

Living in LA can quickly turn you into a health freak…especially if you frequent the West Hollywood area.

My friend B “Eat Like A Boss Lady” invited me to have lunch with her at BCN in WeHo yesterday. I had never heard of BCN before, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a sandwich shop. Why my surprise? Well let’s just say WeHo isn’t necessarily known for it’s sandwiches… more like salad and pressed juice bars instead.

BCN is unique because it isn’t your traditional sandwich shop. Instead its a fast/casual cafe serving up Barcelona street food. Barcelona is a city that has been on my travel bucket list; so I was super excited to be getting a taste of what it would be like to eat there, even though I wasn’t physically there.

Their menu focuses on three Catalan classics:

Bikinis – pressed sandwiches

Bocatas – baguette sandwiches

Cocas – stone-baked flatbreads

We decided to try a bikini and bocata and started of with the Jamon Serrano Bikini. While it was good, it was a little underwhelming which surprised me because this is their signature dish. It had jamon serrano, manchego cheese, portobello, and a truffle aoili. Definitely on the lighter side, and it lacked in flavor and didn’t really seem like there was much to it. Being that this was my first bikini; this just may be the way they are traditionally made. Way more my style, the next sandwich we got was the Braised Short Rib Bocata. This had a lot more flavor than the Bikini and obviously was on the heavier side. It was savory and sweet with a bravas sauce, mahon cheese, and shaved fennel. If you’re going to pick one of the bocatas I strongly suggest this one.

For dessert we got one of their Rose Sugar Cookies that was made with white sugar and infused with rose petals. I couldn’t real taste any “rose” in the cookie, but it was a good sugar cookie nonetheless. If you’re ever in the WeHo area and want to grab a quick bite to eat that’s filling, but not too heavy BCN is a great spot to go to. Plus you’re getting a taste of Barcelona without having to travel there, and you can’t beat that!
